Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about Ericksen Apiaries, our honey, and beekeeping.
Where is Ericksen Apiaries located?
We're based in Moscow, Idaho, with hives spread across Moscow and neighboring towns on the Palouse.
Can I buy your honey?
Not yet commercially, but we're working toward selling at the Moscow Farmers Market in 2026. Stay tuned!
What kind of honey do you produce?
We produce raw, unfiltered honey -- primarily wildflower and clover varieties that reflect the Palouse flora. The flavor varies by season and hive location.
Is your honey raw?
Yes. Our honey is never heated above natural hive temperature or ultra-filtered. It's strained to remove wax particles but otherwise just as the bees made it.
Why does honey crystallize?
Crystallization is a natural process -- it's actually a sign of real, unprocessed honey. To re-liquify, gently warm the jar in warm water. Don't microwave it.
How long have you been beekeeping?
Gerrit started beekeeping in 2022. The operation has grown each year, with about 15 gallons of honey produced in 2025.
Do you offer pollination services?
Our hives naturally pollinate the areas around them. We don't currently offer commercial pollination services, but our bees contribute to pollination across the Moscow area.
Can I visit your hives?
We don't currently offer public hive visits, but we're happy to connect with fellow beekeepers and anyone curious about bees. Reach out through the site and we'll see what we can arrange.
I want to start beekeeping. Where should I begin?
Check out our Beginner's Guide to Beekeeping for a comprehensive overview of equipment, getting bees, and managing your first colony.
What's the best honey for allergies?
Many people believe that local, raw honey can help with seasonal allergies because it contains trace amounts of local pollen. While scientific evidence is mixed, it certainly doesn't hurt to try -- and it tastes great.
